I used up my last Fusion Proglide cartridge and instead of buying another pack of those I dropped some money on a cheap Chinese double-edge razor (was rated well on Amazon) since I didn’t want to spend significantly more on fancy brands along with a pack of Astra blades.

So far, I’m using the Chinesium blades included with my razor and the results have been great.

So much bullshit on the internet about how much more difficult it is shaving like this, and you need all this equipment, blah blah blah.

I did nick my upper lip and that little valley between my lower lip and chin the first time around, but since then it has been fine. Using a cheap Wilkinson brush and soap (both of which were rated somewhat mediocre on Amazon but work great for me) I’m able to get an incredibly close shave at a much lower cost over time.

The funny thing is, many people probably dump cartridge razors for the expense but will end up dumping their savings into nicer razors, brushes, soaps, etc. I think I’ve become one of those idiots since I just bought a nicer brush and a nicer soap (both unnecessary, since they were a few times more expensive than the $3 and $4 cost of the Wilkinson brand brush/soap). However, it turns out I do enjoy the whole process because I’m weird like that. I guess it really depends on how much face fungus you grow and how many cartridges you would normally go through.

The TL;DR: double-edge razor doubleplusgood, don’t believe the weird gatekeeping that surrounds this stuff.

As a beard-y sort who cultivates a few days of stubble for aesthetic reasons, I love my OneBlade.

I switched to one myself and can’t imagine going back. I do spend a little extra to get a nice quality soap, but since I really just trim along the neckline to keep my beard from getting too wild it lasts me quite awhile.

I use Darby Extra blades and have been very happy with them. They’re made in Turkey, and are only $7 for a 100 pack on Amazon.

Looks decent if you want that clean, beardy look (i.e.  the hair doesn’t hang off your face).

My facial hair growth is very patchy and never looks good so the only solution I have is to do a clean shave every morning.

Yeah it was a toss-up between the Derby and Astra blades, both seem to be reviewed well but I went with the Astras based on a gut feeling. They appear to have been made in Russia, and I also just found out they’re owned by Gillette anyways so either way they’re still making money off of me.

I haven’t shaved since my 30th birthday. I’m 60 now.

I switched years ago and will never go back. I don’t shave every day, so a pack of 25 blades has lasted me about three years. I’m also lazy, so I just use Barbasol Sensitive and it’s like 98% of the way to using a brush and lather.

I am somewhat envious of people who can their facial hair grow and still look good (or better than usual).

Unfortunately for me, my looks have never gotten anything for me, and not shaving will only make that worse.

If I shave with a razor I always get really bad razor burn so I use a trimmer but I would like for it to be closer. When I shave it takes like 5 days for the razor burn to go away and it itches and is painful the whole time.

I always wo ndered how much energy my body wastes growing facial hair and if that energy could be redirected into something more useful

My job requires me to shave daily. I bought a semi-decent safety razor handle for $36 and a 110-pack of blades for $15. As for soap, I’ve never found one I like as much as good ol’ Barbasol.

To hell with cartridges.

I thought I had sensitive skin but yours is on a whole other level.

I’ve only owned one electric shaver in my lifetime (a Philips one where you could load shave gel into the shaver itself, the gel was incredibly shitty) but it just wasn’t close enough.

If I were in your position I’d be using a trimmer as well, but also I’d probably be OK with a beard if I could grow one properly in the first place.

Given how much energy I’ve wasted on tasks I’ve needed to think about only to realize I could’ve just not done it at all, I would be fine if my body used a bit more energy to grow facial hair that would actually look decent if it grew out.

My body should just redirect some of its pube growth energy towards facial hair growth . That shit is like a lawn, if you don’t groom it with some regularity it just looks unkempt and irresponsible.

I wish all the energy + resources that my body uses to cultivate thick hair ALL over the body would be used to grow it on top on my head instead.

Stupid genetics.

I think exposing my face under the beard would make me look worse.

Yeah I usually have a shorter beard but have been liking more of the stubble look recently. My beard comes in a mixture of brown and blonde so it can look a little funny sometimes because in some spots it looks thin because of the blonder hair. My skin is really sensitive and it can be annoying at times. I have a hard time finding deodorant that doesn’t leave a red rash too. The best I seem to get is a mild rash but over time it tends to get worse and I have to switch again.

Safety razors are great-I bought a $5 vintage gillette ten years ago and never looked back. $40 buys 25o blades, brush, soap, and a blade bank. .. I’ll tell you when I run out of blades..

I’ve got 4 more razors since then - each was ~$10.

1960 standard speed line, redtip, bluetip, and a brasilia speedline.

Ive also got the 1906 flare tip my grandfather left me that started the whole thing, but it’s not a daily. I’ve got four straights as well but haven’t ventured there yet.

Next I’ll get a fat boy and a slim..

Blades I like are persona reds and feathers. Derby and shark are good too but don’t last as long.
